She takes another forkful of pie and swalllows, then keeps eating steadily - so you follow her example and do the same. The pie is very good, you decide as you eat, and both I and our new son appreciate and need it.
Juroch eats slowly and steadily, taking the time to look around at the rest of you between mouthfuls. He occasionally urges Devin to eat more slowly, and Devin listens to him and actually slows down a bit...

I smile asI watch that and I know that I could so easily have lost my brother were it not for Lirak. He could have been killed by the enemy's fire... but even worse than that, he vcould have been taken under Dureena's wing.
She always favoured him and was grooming him to follow in her footsteps. I do not know if he has it in him to be like her... but she could be persuasive.
But now he is free - and that is thanks to Scarrans and other seemingly inferior species to Kalish. My own freedom ist hanks to them as well, andI smile across at Trannak and ask him how his pie tastes.

"You are always welcome in this house, Trannak" your mother reminds him with a smile "as is Juroch here. Both of you have helped us so much as well as, in your case, being family".
Trannak smiles and rumbles in thanks - Devin grins just as he finishes the last of his pie and thanks Trannak for it with a slightly juice-stained grin. Trannak smiles back before taking a napkin and wiping Devin's mouth clean, and Devin hugs him and tells him "Love you, uncle Trannak..." softly, which gets him another soft rumble.
Once the pie trays are dumped in the recycle chute, tea is poured for everyone - Amara claps and watches while you add a tiny bit of cold water to hers to cool it, then watch while the steam goes way a bit more.
"All ready, Amara" you tell her with a smile, and she takes the mug with both hands...

My mother smiles and rubs Amara's stomach gently, massaging away the digestion pains that Amara is, by now, used to.
I feel like I am about to burst, and wonder if my insides are big enough for a baby and eating time.
Trannak rubs y own stomach very slowly and gently and I can feel our unborn son shifting and absorbing the energy from my body's meal.

Good, you are happy and sated, my new son. The more you take in, the stronger and healthier you will be when you are bron and that will make us all even happier to see you. You still feel warmer than usual for eating time, so you decide he is very hungry and is still taking more energy from your large eating time meal while he can.
Teh gathering adjourns to the lounge then, and the tea comes along with you. Even your father is just resting, taking the occasional mouthful or tea while his meal digests - Juroch, much to Devin's interest, lies down on the carpet once he asks permission from your mother. Devin sits beside him and asks him things, and Juroch talks to him a bit while he rests. Amara comes over to sit on your lap again and tells you all about her meal and her tea and how much she enjoyed both while sitting with your father.
"We will stay maybe an arn..." you tell your mother "before heading back to the Havoc. Devin will need to sleep soon anyway, I think".
"Thank you for coming and sharing eating time with us once more, dear daughter" your mother replies, coming over to give you a hug "It is good to enjoy family times like these again - and now we have new family to enjoy them with, too".

I return her hug tightly, more grateful than ever that she is here, close to me, now that I have a baby on the way. She can teach me the things I will need to know and can advise me on the changes my body and mind will go through.
Amara yawns and stretches her arms out.
"Tired love?" I ask.
She nods. "I all full up an' warm af-ta bigbig fam-lee ee-tees."
"We will be going home soon, beautiful girl. You can have a nice sleep on the trip back, yes? Then be all tucked up in your bed in our home quarters."

Your mother smiles at how Amara both loves coming here but also loves her own home dwelling the most.
"We will rest just a bit more here" you tell her "and once we all feel more rested we can fly back to our big home ship".
"That goodgood, mama" Amara replies, and gets up briefly to hug your mother and father in turn.
Your father calls "Come on, Devin - your large green friend there is not your pillow, you need to go to your own bed" weith just a little amusement - you look over and see Devin with his head resting on Juroch, clearly at least mostly asleep already.
"Come now, Devin..." Juroch adds "You will sleep better in your own bed. I need to find my own before too much more time has passed as well, you know".
Devin looks up at Juroch and nods, before hauling himself off the floor and stumbling sleepily off after your father.
"Good night, little brother..." you call, and he smiles and waves before calling "Goodnight big sister, good night uncle Trannak, good night to you too Amara".
Amara waves and says "Nite nite un-cle De-vin..." before you finish your tea.
"A wonderful eating time..." your mother says when she has put the tea things in the kitchen as well "Shared as a family as it should be... along with new friends as well...".
Juroch rumbles very softly in appreciation at his inclusion there, before adding "It is good for me to have been permitted inside a Kalish home once more... the last time was many cycles ago on Sholphaur, at Master Odass' own home".
Your father comes back after putting Devin to bed, aand you all rest there a bit more together before Trannak says "Thank you once again for letting us share your eating time with you, Mr and Mrs Duleno. But it is time we all returned to the Cry Havoc now, it is late in the evening there - and not only do we need our sleep as well, but the Commander may have things he wants to tell us before we sleep as well".

Amara looks up when she hears you shut the hatch again behind her, and smiles when she sees where she is before saying "Goodee... in mama ship..." before snuggling back up against Trannak again. You all head up the stairs and then to the bridge, where Trannak puts Amara under his jacket before strapping in. She smiles and says "All good an' warm un-da dada ja-kit too, mama..." before you power up your ship and make ready for takeoff.
Sensors report very little airborne traffic at this time, and none of it near the shop, so you make a smooth and quiet takeoff and head for orbit...

I look over at where Amara is already snoring softly under Trannak's jacket. He smiles and strokes her hair as she sleeps, getting mutters and rumbles as she feels him and knows she is safe.
I gigglea little at the sight of Amara under his jacket as he soothes her and I wonder if that is what I will look like when my baby grows much larger inside me.
I tell that to Trannak, that he looks pregnant, and he laughs and says "Maybe that is why I am eating so much."
I laugh too and make the break into orbit, opening the throttle to take us home.

You try every twist and turn and aerobatic manoevre for the first few momens until atmospheric insertion - and start again once you're in atmosphere. Juroch is chuckling a little every so often and resting, while the others are joking around andchallenging each other about how long they can take this kind of flying without vomiting on something or someone.
"Level out and land at your family's shop" Trannak says softly "We'll make the last part of the journey over to the arrivals lounge on foot since we have the time". You smile and nod, pulling up and skimming the port low enough to almost touch the various comm antennae and be able to identify landed ships - amara would love this kind of flying, you know well, and we must make sure to take her flying again some time. Your unborn son moves around and makes you feel a little queasy, but somehow you get the feeling he likes your twisty flying as well.
You skim the blast pit fence at a much more sedate pace and set down slowly so as not to wake your parents or Devin.
"We are on the planet" you call down over the PA "Trannak and I are coming down as soon as the ship is shut down".
"Get ready to move out" Trannak adds "We're makig the last part of the journey to the arrivals lounge on foot. We will not actually go in... but instead stay outside and watch those who leave. I have een given a basic description of the one we have been sent to escort, along with a directive to stay uniobserved unless there's no other way - so once we get to the arrivals lounge we'll head up an emergency staircase to the roof or a nearby warehouse".

I unstrap and use the back of my chair to steady myself as I stand.
"Are you alright?" Trannak asks.
I grin and nod. "A little giddy. I think our son is doing some acrobatics himself."
Trannak loops his arm with mine so I can use him to rest against as we head back down the stairs to the others. "Will you be alright walking to the arivals lounge?"
I nod again. "I will, my Captain. Our son will settle soon enough andI will be fine."
By the time we reach the hatch, my balance has returned and I grin at the rest of our group. "Should I despatch DRDs to mop up vomit?"
Troll grins and shakes his head. "We all made sure to keep your ship all nice an' clean. Cast iron guts, me."
I shrug at his words with a giggle and usher them out.

Everyone gets their packs and weapons as they go, and soon you're all outside and Trannak is sealing the hatch behind you. The team makes their way quietly out through the fence door, with Juroch shutting and locking it almost soundlessly once Trannak has exited and he has followed.
Rekketh nods roughly eastwards, and Trannak looks before nodding and gettting Juroch to lead the way. He sets a quick but not tiring pace, even for you - you see an occasional security patrol, all of whom immediately identify you all as Irregulars by Sturk's and Rekketh's size as much as your crests, and let you pass unhindered.
The arrivals lounge is still well-lit - you can see a number of passenger shuttles landing, bearing the crests of what are presubaly well-known passenger lines, along with one or two unmarked shuttles or pods as well...

Everyone gets their packs and weapons as they go, and soon you're all outside and Trannak is sealing the hatch behind you. The team makes their way quietly out through the fence door, with Juroch shutting and locking it almost soundlessly once Trannak has exited and he has followed.
Rekketh nods roughly eastwards, and Trannak looks before nodding and gettting Juroch to lead the way. He sets a quick but not tiring pace, even for you - you see an occasional security patrol, all of whom immediately identify you all as Irregulars by Sturk's and Rekketh's size as much as your crests, and let you pass unhindered.
The arrivals lounge is still well-lit - you can see a number of passenger shuttles landing, bearing the crests of what are presubaly well-known passenger lines, along with one or two unmarked shuttles or pods as well... |

I feel quite awed, even now, at seeing so many ships of large sizes. Even though I have my wings in large craft, I have not seen this many coming and going all at once.
The noise of the engines makes me giggle and I can feel the sound through my feet and chest - and so can my son.
Trannak turns to smile at me andI grin back at him, glad hechose me to be part of his team.
"Do you know which craft we should be looking for?" Rekketh asks.
Trannak nods. "It will be unmarked, but I have the craft details on my PDA." He flicks a few buttons on it and says "All of you have those details now. First one to spot it gets a bonus - it will look good if we are there the instant it touches down."

"We were instructed by our principal to remain unobserved by the target, and we will do that" Trannak adds "but we should be ready to move as soon as our target appears and leaves the arrivals lounge".
Rekketh points to a ladder up the side of a nearby warehouse - though he growls at the flimsiness of it before leaping from spot to spot, grabbing handholds until he's on the roof and waiting. Sturk does the same, and even Troll manages with more jumps, while you and Trannak and Juroch simply shift up the wall. Juroch smiles as he does that and you know he thinks it amazing even now that he can do that thing so simple and normal to you.
"Probable target ID inside the arrivals lounge" Troll whispers "He's talkin' to someone - prob'ly the shuttle pilot he came in with. Looks to be female Sebacean, not bad lookin' if you like that species". He grins after that, and you know he thinks Urana is much more attractive than any Sebacean could be for him.
Trannak looks as well before replying "Confirmed target ID - it's him alright. Male Kalish matching height and build we were told he'd be".
One of my people? That is interesting. He must have quite some reputation if the local proconsul is willing to put his own money on the line to ensure his safety...
