You pull the paper out from under the knot carefully and open it to read "Nicely done. Payment enclosed. Don't need you for more just yet, but don't go too far."

Heh, clear and concise - and telling me absolutely nothing I can use. The money goes into your pockets and you try to decide what to do next - you're a little richer than before and haven't eaten a decent meal for a few arns now...

As abit of an afterthought, jenna looks at the door where the hooligans had recently exited from, suspecting that the 'passed out' man wasnt so drunk, or one of his friends wasnt.

'Nice trick, ill add that to my repertoire', she said to nobody in particular, tossing the bag from one hand to another as a half-c*cked smile spread itself onto her face in dark admiration 'Very smooth trick'....

Strolling up to the bar, she looked at afew others were eating, and decided on ordering a chunk of blue meat and the spicy snack she was munching on earlier, along with a thin and small slice of some kind of sweet smelling fuzzy plant leaf, or was it an edible fungus? Anyway, she got her food and the bartender got (his/its?) money.

The food was delicious, and the barfight was fun to watch; 3 unruly sebaceans vs a pair of Luxans vs the insect bouncer, the latter won of course, and all 5 of the former ended up kissing the curb in a none-too-pleasant way.

The luxans didn't come back in, instead wandering off to likely pick fights somewhere else, whereas the PK-looking trio was rather insistent on getting back in - which wasn't happening anytime soon; 2 scarran bouncers came and backed up the chitinous fellow for about 5 or 6 microts, and the unruly group went away in a hot hurry.

Seeing the results out of the corner of her eyes, Jenna prayed thankfulness that Nebari weren't especially prone to heat delirium, and also prayed that the scary scarrans wouldn't overtly notice her...

Finishing the meal, Jenna exited the cantina and went to check on how much cargo space her transport had, hoping that maybe she could scavenge something interesting, and have room enough to haul it as well....

Since money-making's on your mind, you decide to ask around and see if anyone's got some cargo needs hauling - with this place bein' what it is, you decide, it'll mean some smuggling and that will pay better than doing two-kroner message running.

I'll hafta head to one of the bigger places 'round 'ere for that, you decide - money's a bit tight, but I know I got enough for a drink or two. You listen out for scuttlebutt about interesting places, and soon enough there's chatter to suggest a large bar further towards the trade quarter that a lot of pilots go to.

Loud and raucous laughter can be heard further down the street, and you soon decide that this is the place you heard about - it looks very rough and the outside of the place is not in such good repair, but the door staff are checking people over and either moving them in or kicking them off the path promptly and efficiently. You squirm into the queue, and before long you're stopped at the door by a huge hand held up in front of you, whose owner growls "Dancers go roun' th' back, greyskin".

A remark comes quickly to mind, but you look up to see a very large Tavlek complete with gauntlet and bad temper in front of you so you keep that in your mind and simply tell him "Small craft pilot, not hired help".
"That so?" he says "Get in, then - I hear there's a few people lookin' fer some one to do some haulin' o' this or that about tonight"

Walking in, Jenna has no idea what to expect, but there was a stage and dancers, a bar, tables and seats, and a pair of staircases that spiraled upwards in opposite helices to a semi-upstairs/catwalks.

Striding up to the bar, She asked the nondescript bartender who to talk to for cargo running, and he just pointed a sweeping gesture that pretty much included half the bar as he served others next to her.

Right....

GM's addition...some time later, game time...

Dropping back through the door of what has become one of your favourite hangouts, you look around and see a few of those you have become accustomed to seeing here and a few you prefer to avoid - much like anywhere on this waste-hole of a planet.

Casting your mind back, you remember the first job you got here - you still haven;t got any closer to finding out who or what the local figure with a fancy for swords actually is, if he's real at all and not some local legend. You have come to know Caark a little more, and you're not ennttirely sure you like that... but he's a local mover and shaker, you remind yourself, and someone whose good side I have to stay on 'round here.

For now, you decide to grab one or two bar snacks and see what you can find out while you wait for your contact to arrive for the next job he says he has for you...

As usual at The Outlander, stuff went on; exotic dancing, barfights, gambling, and drinking, and Teepo and company being busy tossing hoodlums to the curb for the night, even though they would probably be back tomorrow.

Nibbling on the spicy prith puffs, she watched the various fights spawn and be broken up, while the stage ladies danced like nothing happened. As a Tavlek was slammed onto the main counter, on the other side of the room, and slid down the length of the bar by a Luxan, who was getting his face pounded in by said Tavlek, Jenna pondered on the possibility of supplementing her income with stints of exotic dancing.

S/he certainly had the body for it, but doubted that s/he could hide her 'hardware' with such a lack of clothes....

Could be fun, but it was probably best not to service male audiences, and risk things turning worse for her, like that one time she tried to make it with a sebacean to steal him deaf, blind, and naked and sell his stuff for more flashmilk. He found out she wasn't exactly female, and a tenth-arn later, him and his friends came back, and were now looking for some violent fun.

Luckily, she got away, although her flashmilking days were over right after that, and thankfully she hadn't run into any of them again so far.

Right then, she spotted her contact, who was weaving his way to Jenna's table in the corner, with the unstable table now even more pathetic looking, having only been bonded back together with mechanical tape.

"Boss sure has a sense o' hummour gettin' th' meet on in 'ere, that's for sure..." he mutters before passing you a piece of paper and saying "Pickup, this time - an' in Mistress Lonn's territory so it might a bit more ...fun... gettin' there".
"Is your boss at war, then?" you ask, niot knowing what answer you'll get - but the man just looks around a bit before saying "Nah, we's doin' good with th' Mistress... but she's fightin' with 'er neighbour, th' so-called Lord Morik, over four money-makin' streets an' a fightin' house at th' spaceport".

Great - a street war in between me an' my job! Maybe that m,eans it'll pay more, you wonder hopefully - these last few jobs have been a bit longer on risk and shorter on reward than you like, so maybe there'll be opprotunities to make a bit more on the side and even get more for the job as well...

Setting off out of the cantina, jenna briskly walks down the streets parallel to the 4-way intersection zone, and thankfully everything's still normal for about 6 blocks, and hanging a left.

2 blocks after that, jenna ran into a checkpoint booth, which got her alot of gun barrels swinging her way. 'Ok whitey, who are ya?' apparently the lead soldier had had a bad day, as they surrounded her.
Verifying that that she's one of Caark's smugglers, they went back to what they were doing, parting with a 'welcome to hell, don't get caught by the other side' and crossing the border between Caark's and the mistresses provinces.

5 blocks after the left and the checkpoint, things start to turn weird as she enters a creepy former battlezone, with ankle-deep ash, cooked bodies and burnt blast marks everywhere.

Not even 50 metras away, just beyond a torn open building and its wall of rubble, and the flipped battletanks, the ruckus of combat was growing louder, which meant that the lines were shifting.

Suddenly, a slew of lonn's men burst around the tank and ran the other way, and a soldier slowed only to yell in passing at jenna. 'You better shift yer pale backside the other way, Morik's gangs 'int takin' prisoners n' matter how pretty ya'are!' and a missile streaks by as if to prove a point, slamming into the building and finally leveling it, causing an opaque fog of dust to swell up and out from the former building.

(OOC: abit of mood music for these next few scenes; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBbi272U0oU )

Running and ducking into the busted out tank, jenna waits until the other soldiers pass. Looking out of a puckered outward hole in the tanks hull, she sees Morik's men, laughing and giggling as they rape and slowly butcher anything still moving or making sounds.

The officer who warned her away was being ripped apart by sheer force between two of the bigger of morik's soldiers, alive in full view of the tanks hull gaps, and jenna had to cram herself under the drivers seat, silently weeping, and cram her fingers into her ears not to hear his gurgling screams and their high pitched giggling, praying to whatever gods were listening, that she not be found.

Morik had not hired soldiers, he had influenced monsters, and trained them to be in gangs, with guns and blades........

You risk a few microts of your life to look at Morik's mena and see they don;t quite look normal - those with heavier guns look to have target-tracker implants over their eyes and all look as if they're stronger and faster than normal flesh would allow. You peek at one nearby, hoping that if you remember enough, a) it may let you escape with your life, and b) the information may be valuable to someone.

Looks to be augs, big augs, bad augs... the metalheads from bad spaceport-bar stories. Big men so heavily augmented by dead-metal cybernetic implants their personalities had fragmented or had become unstable - these made they extremely strong but prone to psychotic episdodes and disconection from reality due to almost being more metal than flesh.

A few more men and women bearing Mistress Lonn's crest run past with a little more discipline and one woman spots you. She hauls you out of your hidey-hole and barks "You's comin' with us, miss! Dunno who you're workin' for but you're in a war zone 'ere an' might 'ave seen somethin' our Mistress wants to know!"
"Crawler's close and still not blasted!" a man calls, after which her orders "MOVE! MOVE! GET IN! WE'VE NOT GOT FOREVER!"

Having taken a sort-of leave of her senses, jenna was half-dragged down the block by the hand, and shoved into the working crawlertank. Once in the cramped vehicles quarters, she just sat there, idle and glassy-eyed, her mind trying to rectify the nightmare she had stumbled across, oblivious to the fact that she had lost her sword back in the wrecked-out tank.

It was obvious to anyone present that jenna had never experienced war or death in any significant ways, despite the pulse pistol in its holster on her thigh

The driver, despite having several small bleeding wounds on his neck and arms and one across his forehead, is better than he might look - he pulls a sharp turn and bolts for what you assume is safe territory belonging to Mistress Lonn. From the sounds outside the trip back is contested - but these metalheads must be augmented for brute strength and firepower, not speed, and don't pursue.

Closer to Mistress Lonn's territory more well-equipped and disciplined troops (or very well trained henchmen) start to appear - the few metalheads close by are taken down, if rather too close to your speeding crawlertank for your own personal peace of mind. The driver doesn;t look back and keeps going as fast as he can...

ooc : arriving from http://farscaperpg.proboards.com/index.c....78&page=8#22203

You pass a few places you know as the scarred man drives as fast as he can while not crashing. People dive out of the way quite regularly, clearly upset and angry but most know of the reputation of the man driving the buggy as well so there's no thrown rocks or bottles or gunshots coming your way.

After a momen or so, the scarred man makes a fast and tight 180 turn before backing up into an alley and coming to a fast and rough stop.
"In here" he insists, glaring as you take longer than he likes to unstrap and get out "The offworlder will most likely be at the bar nearest the pits, so we go down a level first".

You just nod and follow, catching the edge of the drinking and music and intermittent fighting in the bar at street level. The stairs go down for longer than you'd expect before the scarred man thumps a door open with his treblin elbow.

There are so many sights and sounds and smells here it's impossible to separate one from another. Various narcotics, you expect, although more people are sticking to the alcohol so they're able to make sure they get their bets paid. The scarred man checks a bit of paper before looking around - then grunts and tells you "Edge of the pit, in that chair at the table next to the supporting pillar".
The man looks quite large and heavily-built, but with the light and sound around here it's tricky to tell anything else. The scarred man forces his way through the throng of customers and you follow close behind... a momen or two later you both flop down on chairs at this offworlder's table.

A chuckle of sorts comes from under his cap and he says "Looks like there's gonna be some work to do after all, then... good, this place was getting a bit boring, with nothing to do beyond starting street fights or betting on others".
"Yes, lots of work for you" the scarred man replies "Test for now. The Mistress wants to tsee what you can do first before committin' to a contract, so she sent this Nebari over to watch an' report backk when you're done".

The scarred man looks at the offworlder again before adding "I can;t say I like the idea of hirin' one o' your people... but Mistress wants that so it gets done".
"Works for me" the offworlder says "Works even better when I'm on leave an' findin' more money to earn as well. Harr, harr, harr..." before turning to face you.
The light illuminates him better then -and you almost cry out in shock and surprise when you see his species. Scarran! You can;t jhelp but look a bit more closely, having never expected to see a Scarran close-to and still be alive afterwards, and he just laughs and says "Low-caste mother and high-caste father if you're trying to figure it out, miss!"

He rumbles and growls happily before downing an entire large mug of what even you can tell is very strong fellip without stopping.
"Right, I'm ready" he says, nodding and grinning "Just two things I need to know now... 1) Where's the enemy, and 2) Where's my advance money?"

He rumbles and growls happily before downing an entire large mug of what even you can tell is very strong fellip without stopping.
"Right, I'm ready" he says, nodding and grinning "Just two things I need to know now... 1) Where's the enemy, and 2) Where's my advance money?"

The scarred one hands the offworlder a pair of thick envelopes, one with money, one with info. "Mistress wants you to take miss pale here t'be an observer...." he says, thumbing at Jenna.

The offworlder grins a mouth full of daggers, as the money envelope vanishes under the table, and Jenna shudders, trying her hardest to keep bad memories down....

You feel just a bit better once you get back outsuide again, with what passes for fresh air here on Rogkyun coming past you in a light breeze. The offworlder stops and sniffs before licking one finger and holding it up - then he grins and nods. When you ask him why, he rumbles a bit and says "The wind blows away from us, Nebari - which, for me especially, is very good".

You're not quite sure what to make of the rumble - do Scarrans rumble when they're please? happy? angry? How could I tell? Eventually you decide this Scarran is pleased, at least a little bit - after all, if he was angry the first thing he'd do is kill me...

Right now he's looking at the information packet he was given, such as it is... when you try looking over his shoulder, you feel a very slight presence in your mind for less than a microt before he chuckles and says "You can look, miss... you're here as an observer after all! We need transport, if you can see any - we can walk if we gotta, but I'd rather not if there's an alternative".

'If its all the same to you, needlemouth, ide rather not dredge up bad memories by staring you in the face....', Jenna said in response to his giving permission to look. A Smart one would pick up on the implication that Jenna had had a bad run in with Scarrans from that comment, but if they were to be together for this mission, she would have to glance his ugly mug sooner or later and not trip out....

Spotting a freshly parked motorcage sort of truck^, Jenna stalked towards it, wondering if she could steal it for transport, and waving a hand for Needles to follow.

Walking Sidelong up to it, she looked the vehicle over; long, wide, angular, maybe a jet-Ion engine, given the amount of vents and grills in the hood cowlings behind the cab, an array of lights on the front and top, 6 fat wheels evenly spaced, armored panels all over it with slit-viewports, atleast an inch thick, and what looked to be roof-panel doors.

The whole thing was long smears of brown and gray and rusted to the point that you might cut yourself wide open if you slipped wrong, and covered in luxan graffiti in shades of blue and white, with some yellow markings....

Hopefully, its unlocked, with nobody looking after it. Looking around to see if anyone is disturbed, Jenna smiles as s/he yanks on the drivers side door hatch....

...which seems to have been left open. When you look inside, you soon find out why - the driver has passed out in the seat, still smelling strongly of several different kinds of both fellip and spirits.

Your nose crinkles instinctively before you tell the Scarran - he just grunts and lifts the man out quite easily (although he does use both hands) before dropping him on the pavement and rifling his pockets for some means to start the vehicle's engine. He finds some kind of key after a momen or two, so you quickly jump into the passenger's seat and strap in - and not a microt too soon, as he turns the vehicle around swiftly before wrestling it back under control (accompanied by several muttered Scarran swear-words) and heading off down the street.

"Check the map" he tells you "Don;t drop us right in their laps... but close enough so we won't have to walk far to the front lines".
You're starting to think the front lines will be coming to you instead of the other way around - and you see a slight grin on the Scarran's face as he drives and before he replies "That works too, Nebari...even better if we do this right...".
