I took a deep breath. I had to flee here. It was the second best place to go.

"Attention Nebari vessel this is Alexius Barrus requesting permission to enter Nebari space. Please respond."

I waited either for their permission, or for the need for evasive maneuvers if they decided to take shots at me. If worse came to worse I could always fall back on the Peacekeeper act. I had used that before to get myself out of trouble.

"Incoming vessel" comes the smooth reply "We know what Marauders are, and who flies them. The Captain will want to question you extensively. Get on the flight deck now".

Either side of you, the space ripples. Two Cyclone class fighters appear as if from nowhere. One pilot waves you on towards the Regina, moving alongside. The other hangs back and moves in behind you.

"Copy that. Coming in to dock."

Once Moran's clear of the flight deck doors, she starts tapping out queries on the flight computer and calculating a course. Since all of that comes up on your consoles as well, you follow along with it - making sure to note your Host Vessel's spatial location in your PDA in case you have to make your own way back after the embassy assignment or you need to flee to a safe haven (which you hope isn't ever necessary).

You call out softly in awe as you look up, seeing for the first time the enormous bulk and might of a Host Vessel from the outside. It is nicely smooth in shape, with the large wing sections either side of the hull being large smooth curves from front to back and the nose tapering slowly out to what you assume to be the bridge at the very front. You look down onto the hull and see several big turrets of three different sizes as well - when Moran realises what's occuopying you, she brings the Cyclone a little further out so you can see more clearly and explains it to you.

"It's always good when you see a Host Vessel from the outside for the first time" she tells you "Those big turrets on the wings are some of the heaviest of the standard naval guns, special kinds only we Nebari can make. The next size down, those two you see over the flight deck entryways, are the medium turrets - same kind of guns in them as the big ones, just not so large, and there's four more of them under the hull as well. The really little ones are anti-small craft gun turrets - for shooting down small fighters and shuttles".

As Moran banks around to your treblin, you see a huge weapon muzzle in the nose under the bridge - it has to be a weapon, you decide, it can't be anything else. Moran confirms your guess when you pass it on to her, saying "Yes, that's a weapon - the giant core cannon. The only weapon on this ship that can hit a planet from orbit, or cripple large naval vessels of the other species. Powerful and long ranged, but takes one hezmana of a time to charge up and has to be aimed by the helmsman as it's fixed into the hull and not in a turret".

Your respect and awe in your people's technological achievements increases many times over as you hear Moran's description of the Host Vessel and see it with your own eyes. You wonder briefly if there is anything else it can do that Moran hasn't told you about, but decide that you will find out about that when you need to.

I watch the giant ship getting smaller and smaller while we move away from it, being grateful for the impressing moments i could enjoy looking at the Host vessel. After a while i return my attention back to the consoles around me. It seems the course is set and it will take several days til we reach the commerce planet from the estimated time displayed on the small screen.
Time for some study... and maybe some talk with Moran.

"May i take a look at some of the ships connection diagrams?" i ask her after some time has passed. In case we face any kind of problems regarding this ships functions i´d just like to know what modifications were done to this Cyclone. After all, it would be me to patch this ship back together.

"Very well", Moran replies without looking at me. "Feel free to check them on your console."
While i start to call up the required data, Moran is trying some of her special flight maneuvers. I call out in surprise as she does a sudden spin with the Cyclone, dropping the bottle of water i just picked up in the process.

"I almost forgot how that feels! It´s good to be back!" she tells me with a grin. "I really should be out more often."

And if i wouldn´t be strapped into my seat i´d just find myself crawling out of a corner... i think to myself.
After a few more demonstrations of her excellent piloting skill, though, i don´t really feel that well anymore.
"Uh... could you possibly...", i start, but she laughs and nods. "All right, i´ll take things slow. You didn´t fly that much before, right?"

"No," i tell her as the Cyclone stabilizes it´s flight and my stomach returns to where it belongs. "Just a few training flights, that´s it, i fear." Moran nods again with an amused grin.

When i feel a bit better i start looking thought these wiring diagrams and silently pray that we never get into a situation where she has to do any such maneuvers again...
Time passes, and some of this ships modifications are very fascinating indeed...
